The original kitchen was narrow and elongated, with a lack of work surfaces and storage space. To change the perception of the room, the architects built an expressive composition. The bathroom and staircase were combined into a single volume, which was visually separated from the kitchen. This dark monolith with a finish reminiscent of burnt wood symbolizes Mount Ararat, next to which the ark itself seems to be located. The blue lighting of the staircase becomes the image of the water surrounding the ark, and the large round lamp under the ceiling resembles a sky window, evenly filling the space with soft diffused light and creating an atmosphere of calm.
Thoughtful architectural composition naturally turned into solving practical problems of space. Thanks to the L-shaped layout, the kitchen work surface almost doubled, and the mobile island made the space flexible. Additional storage systems appeared in the dark volume in front of the bathroom and in the mezzanine above the passage to the stairs.
A logical continuation of the thoughtful layout was the bathroom, which was made as functional as possible: there is a shower room with accordion doors, a wall-hung toilet, a cylindrical floor sink and a washing machine. The space under the stairs on the side of the bathroom turned into a neat niche, which was decorated Lamarty chipboard in Albero decor 10 mm thick with embossing “Oak”. The expressive pattern of natural oak and deep embossing make the surface visually close to solid wood. Behind the hatch were hidden leads to communications.
The interior is filled with details that preserve and continue the history of the family. Thus, clay tiles with imprints of objects from the old house and new casts created during the renovation process transform the interior into a kind of family chronicle, where memories are preserved and new stories appear.
