The project team has once again proven that even complex spatial geometry is no obstacle to a stylish and functional interior. This time, a loft has been transformed to meet the modern needs of a family, making use of hard-to-reach areas under the slopes.

The loft, with its complex geometry of slopes and walls, had always remained an inaccessible and underutilized space. However, the project team found a way to transform it into a functional and stylish area where every corner is put to good use. Instead of struggling with the layout’s peculiarities, designers Tatyana Odintsova and Vlad Cherednichenko embraced them, placing spacious storage systems, a work desk, and pull-out beds under the slopes. This solution allowed the main part of the room to be kept open, making it a versatile space for relaxation, entertaining guests, or even practicing yoga. Now, the loft is not only a cozy spot for evening gatherings but also offers an extra sleeping area for overnight guests.

To bring this vision to life, SyPly BIRCH Low plywood, 9 mm thick, was used for rough finishing. This material is ideal for construction projects requiring strength and durability. The plywood sheets were laid on a two-component parquet adhesive, creating a long-lasting foundation for the final quartz vinyl finish.

The storage system was crafted from Lamarty chipboard in the colors “Calypso” and “White”. Most cabinets blend seamlessly with the white walls, giving the interior a light and cohesive look, while a few accent sections feature wood laminate. For convenience, the fronts were equipped with push-to-open mechanisms, allowing them to open with a light touch, while ball-bearing slides ensured smooth door movement.

One of the most unconventional solutions was the addition of a suspended kitchen, which looks nothing like a standard kitchen space. It appears to float in midair, keeping the interior light while remaining fully functional. The goal was not just to create a practical layout but to establish a unique atmosphere, drawing inspiration from retro-futurism. The designers combined the best elements from different eras: the 1920s’ functionality and minimalism, the 1950s’ floating furniture aesthetic, and the 1970s–80s’ fascination with space exploration and rounded forms. The interior is filled with references to iconic works, including Kubrick’s: A Space Odyssey, Solaris, and the imaginative worlds of Kir Bulychev and the Strugatsky brothers.

Once the main interior was set, it was time to add character-defining details. The centerpiece was a Soviet-era sofa found on an online marketplace. Its frame was carefully repainted, and the old cushions were replaced with new, bright yellow ones, bringing a cheerful accent to the restrained space. Complementing it was an Italian chair from the 1980s, perfectly enhancing the retro aesthetic.

Now, the loft has been completely transformed, gaining a modern look and a new level of functionality. It serves as a workspace, a relaxation zone, a fitness area, and a place for family time. Even children’s creativity found its place in the updated interior, seamlessly blending into the overall design concept. A unique tufted rug, inspired by a drawing made by the homeowners’ daughter, was specially crafted for the project.

This project once again proves that smart design solutions and high-quality materials can turn even the most challenging spaces into comfortable and stylish living areas.
